Pregnant - VBAC

I am due to have my second child on July 1st. My first delivery was by c-section due to her being breach. This was 6 yrs ago and I have learned alot since then and have decided to have a VBAC. I'm looking for any advice on how to make this a success and avoid another c-section. I am currently taking Nature's prenatal, rose hips, Herbal CA, Three, red raspberry and skeletal strength. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! -Deann

My July baby is my VBAC baby. :) She will be two this summer, and my son who will be 6 in September was born by c-section for failure to progress.

First of all, I can't tell you how important it is to have a positive attitude about your VBAC. Speak of it as something that WILL happen, not something that you only hope to experience. Another thing... I really took my time in selecting a care giver. I finally settled on an Amish midwife (with an excellent reputation) and I really feel that's a key ingredient to a successful VBAC. I read somewhere that if your care giver doesn't really believe in VBACs, you won't have one. You might want to consider hiring a birth doula. I did, and she was a huge support to me before I even had my baby. She suggested books to read and was really instrumental in helping me to believe in myself and my body's ability to birth a baby.

There are two good books I can think of off the top of my head: The Silent Knife and The VBAC Companion. Not sure of the authors' names, but you should be able to do a search on Amazon for them.

You need a good support system. Does your husband agree with your decision to have a VBAC? You can find community websites online that will connect you with other VBAC moms whom you can talk with. Mothering.com has discussion boards and I'm pretty sure they have a VBAC board there.

Oh, along with 5-W, Nature's Prenatal, and red raspberry, my midwife had me using Evening Primrose as suppositories toward the end. She said it would help soften the cervix when it came time for baby.

I'm not sure if you only wanted answers as far as herbs go, so I'm sorry if I wasn't much of a help to you. -Karen
