Vein - Deep Thrombosis
Have a customer, only 40 years old with a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis - blood clots in the legs. Doctors have him on Coumadin but still not dissolving. Any suggestions on why he may be getting this and what we can do herbally to help. He is disgusted with doctors because he feels they are treating symptoms and not cause. He is not comfortable being on Coumadin and wants to get off of it. TIA -Candice

Look into Butchers Broom and Vari-Gone. They might be very helpful in this situation.

Our daughter recently went through the same thing. Sometimes the clots do not dissolve, but scar over and become encased in tissue. While our daughter was on Coumadin we also had her on Butcher's Broom and Vitamin E.
It is important that the blood be monitored frequently on Coumadin due to the dangers involved with this drug. This is a lethal drug in excess and excess is different with each person. Our daughter suffered bleeding from the bowels and kidneys when they gave her what they considered an average dose. Each person is different and this drug is difficult to regulate.
As to why he is getting this there may be several reasons; prescription drugs, Protein C or S deficiency, Lupus, etc. The doctors should be running blood work and sending it to Mayo clinic.
There have been several studies done in Europe on the effects of Butcher's Broom on deep vein thrombosis. I would suggest that he do research on the internet along these lines. It is, however, important that his doctors know that he is adding in more blood thinners, so they can monitor him closely.
Our daughter is no longer on Coumadin and only takes the Butcher's Broom and Vitamin E for blood thinning. If he chooses this course the amounts should be adjusted to his size. -Glenda Hadley, N.D., M.H. |
