Body Type - Thyroid
Anatomy and Physiology:
The thyroid is in the neck, just below the larynx in front and to the side of the trachea.
Iodine is the primary nutrient utilized by the thyroid. The thyroid needs 1/5000th of a gram of iodine daily for the thyroid to produce thyroxin and triiodothyronine. The thyroid is essential in the metabolic process, which is what controls the energy level. It is known as the thermostat of the body, as well as the third ovary in women. It regulates the rhythm of the heart and kidneys. Calcitonin is also excreted by the thyroid. It is responsible for osteoblasts (bone-forming cells). Parathyroid, which is generally secondary to the thyroid, controls calcium and phosphorus levels, essential for bone growth and physical height. The thyroid is the "communicator".
