Capsicum
This last week I discovered a medical information website, WebMD, URL is http://shn.webmd.com/index. This website dispenses Mainstream Medical Wisdom(!) On this site I searched on Cayanne (Capsicum) and found the following information under "Contraindications".
====================================
Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) -- Cayenne can be irritating to hemorrhoids. Do not apply cayenne to broken skin or near eyes. Prolonged application can cause skin irritation.
If taken internally, do not exceed recommended dose -- high doses can cause gastroenteritis (inflammation of the gastro-intestinal tract) and kidney damage.
While cayenne has been used as a treatment for ulcers, it can make matters worse under certain conditions. If you have any digestive disorders, use cayenne only under the direction of qualified practitioner.
====================================
While I can agree that the use of Cayenne on Hemorrhoids or on broken skin could be pretty exciting I am wondering about the comment on internal use. My understanding of how cayenne works is that it is only hot when exposed to air. I have read quite a bit on Cayenne and specifically a book on the use of it for Cardiac conditions and have encountered no such cautions. Can someone shed further light on this? Thanks. -Bill

Some people cannot handle capsicum in any form and their experiences when heard by others make it to some web sites. Capsicum has been used for years to treat ulcers (ask the founder of NSP about that one) in firs aid kits to stop bleeding in wounds (wounds are by definition places where there are open areas in the skin or skin surface) and for many other things. So you will have to let your conscience be your guide on this one. My son uses Capsicum to stop his nosebleeds--nothing else does it. According to the information you have found this cannot be, yet it is. He suffers no kidney damage from it. But then he eats enough peppers of all kinds to make many people of western European extraction shudder. So there are the two extremes. I find it is best to stay in the middle of these controversies, present both sides to those who inquire and let people make their own intelligent choices. -Marilyn Navarro

Capsicum is an adoptigen. He assists the body to adopt to his present stress
Open wounds ... it is a great to stop bleeding and close skin
Internally... it has been know to stop heart attacks and to help the body adapt to it's present condition...it will assist in lowering high blood pressure and raising low blood pressure etc.
NSP was started on just this one herb. Gene Hughes (NSP founder) used it for his ulcers. -Richard Ask |
