Balancing Hormones - On Pill

I just started birth control pills to controlling bleeding I have due to uterine polyps. Is it appropriate to take herbs to balance my hormones while I'm on the pill? -MS

You may want to use Pro-G-Yam Cream on day 14-28 of your cycle. Do not use the first two weeks. The reason is this BC pills usually shut down your own body's hormones and you do not ovulate. If you don't ovulate, no progesterone is made. And BC pills give you a synthetic progestin (lots of uncomfortable side effects). Adding natural progesterone may make PMS symptoms less severe (stuff like insomnia, irritability, depression). Also think about using Milk Thistle for a month (1 capsule 3 times a day) to help your liver detox and get rid of excess estrogen that may have caused your original problem. And just a note, St. John's wort, so commonly used for depression, may make birth control pills ineffective at preventing conception! -Deb2
