Bacterial Vaginitis

Has anyone had any experience treating this? I am especially interested in the root cause of this, and how to prevent it from returning. Well, I know it is from an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina, due to a lack of lactbacillus; but how would this happen with someone taking probiotics? It is often a result of douching, IUD usage, or multiple sexual partners, but in this case none of those factors apply. I guess it is quite common among women; 30% of those who have it are symptom free and it is detected in a pap smear or GYN exam.

Just wondered if someone had had experience treating this. It was new to me! Did a lot of reading on it last night. -Sharon Grimes

I had someone come in yesterday with this. The Sunshine Sharing "intimate Health" said they are usually accompanied by urinary tract infections and may be acquired through intercourse. I know you said multiple partners were not the case, but maybe it goes back and forth between two partners? Herbs suggested for treatment Echinacea (oral and vaginally) White Oak Bark (vaginally) Pau D'Arco (oral and vaginally) calendula (vaginally) and tea tree oil (one drop per pint of water vaginally). -Julie Sergel
