Baby - Colon Inflamed

My 6 month old boy was a 3 1/2 week premature twin (twin B is a girl w/out problems). He has been exclusively breast-fed. From birth, he has been unable to "go potty" without a rectal stem. At 7 weeks we ended up in the hospital because he was so toxic after failing to go for 10 days with constant straining. My holistic internist energy tested and found allergies to milk and wheat. Since then, I have eliminated all dairy and wheat from my diet (for the past 4 months). Initially, I eliminated soy, but its reintroduction did not cause any symptoms. The baby can still not go on his own. Conventional medicine found no blockage and a heavily inflamed colon. It is believed that the milk allergy caused the inflamation, leading to constipation and excessive stool storage, causing the colon to expand and store more stool.

He is not constipated in the conventional sense; his stool is watery with little to no substance. He is on a prescription laxative and still does not go for days at a time. He runs a fever of 100 most days and seems to push without relaxing his rectum. He is plump (I believe he over-nurses to comfort himself and make his stomach feel better.) It is time to introduce solids and the pediatrician is pushing iron; ie. further constipation. The pediatric GI specialist wants to keep him on laxative for another 6 months to clean him out and allow his colon to shrink back to original size. Ironically, he was energy tested last week and no allergy to milk or wheat was found. Any suggestions? Is magnesium safe? Is there an enzyme? -Catherine

I would start with Probiotic Eleven, Magnesium Complex, Cellular Build and digestive enzymes. And rub the colon part of his fet with peppermint oil mixed in olive oil. -Lora

Catherine, I am deeply saddened by what you and your child are going through. My sisters baby (3yrs now) was born with Hairsprings, she had a colonospathy at birth, then a reattachment at 3months, cutting away the intestine without any nerves.... I at 46... my system has always been slow 5 days on average... no doctors ever really seemed to care.. I have now just stared My own testing.. Colonoscopy fine... then some kind of rectal exam.. which everyone in the room seem shocked.. which I will find out in the next few days... Seems to be what I gather from the nurses
that I bare down for a bowel movement... (until veins are popping in my head) and my body actually has no... NONE.... physical response....
I could swear I was pushing out the ENTIRE PLANET,
but the physical response on their machines was absolutely NIL... while I was bursting blood vessels in my brain....
I have yet to here what my next tests are..
I know this has more than likely been going on all my life.. always aprox 5days between bowel movements no matter what I did... (and I have Tried EVERYTHING!) and i have to say to believe that all that pushing never did anything is hard to believe...
But all my babies (3) were C-sect. and the first one 10 cm's dilated... I pushed for over FOUR HOURS... so ... I am still waiting to see the next battery of tests... blessings to your little one... W/ Inflamed Colon..
They do have rectal manipulators for babies that my sister use... very very gentle.. like a soft massage... and that helped her daughter a great deal with learning how to have a bowel movement after her colonoscopy and intestinal reattachment. -Colleen
