Developing Your People Skills
by Samuel Negron
How you develop your people skills will determine whether you make a sale.
Here are some tips for selling success:
1- Be Knowledgeable About Your Business.
It's very important to know your product line inside and out. Do not appear unprepared, it will show quickly and work against you. By building your name as an expert, people will come to rely on what you have to say and they will feel comfortable doing business with you.
Solution: Do your research.
2- Give Your Full Attention To Your Clients.
Listening is an art form that must be developed in sales in order to succeed. Do not let your mind wander! Your prospect will immediately detect when you're really not paying attention and you will lose sales. Don't insult their intelligence by not giving them all of your attention.
Solution: Focus your attention.
3- Present A Professional Appearance.
A clean and neat appearance is important to project a positive image. First impressions are so very important. Don't distract your prospect by how you look, rather create a pleasant feel about you. Guys-jeans and sneakers are out, pressed slacks and dress shirt are in. Gals-revealing clothes and a lot of jewelry are out, pressed blouses and skirts/slacks are in.
Solution: Always present a professional business appearance.
4-Ask Open Questions.
Don't let your conversation end prematurely. Make sure you ask question that must be answered with details, not just yes and no. These revealing details are what will help you determine what your prospect wants and you can then address those wants. Always remember that your client is only interested in what your product can do for them, not for you!
Solution: Listen & Understand.
5- Project A Positive Attitude.
Be confident in what you will share with your prospect. Know what your going to say and when you have to say it. Know how you're going to say it and to whom. Have your ideas lined up for every situation and objection you encounter. By knowing your product and your prospect, sales will result naturally.
Solution: Show Confidence.
Apply these five basic business techniques and your learning curve will develop into many more sales. |
