Well, I am not sure what hospital you went to, but we use protein snacks at night to prevent hypoglycemia and have always used a glycemic index and food exchange system to monitor the intake of food on a point bases. I found that adding food enzymes helps improve digestion this is a key factor in my regime, for me that is. I added fiber to my diet by eating foods high in fiber, and try to eat on schedule at regular times. There is nothing new about this we have known this for years and so my advise is stick to what you know.

I use Xylitol instead of artifical sweeters which can actually work agains the body since they like sugar cause inflammation. Try to stay away from prepackaged sugar free and low carb sweets. you can eat sweets made at home with xylitol but as I said it has been and always will be all about managing your calorie intake and regular exercise. Improving digestion helps the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and all digestive organs to function better. I take food enzymes 3 times a day and especially the ones with the pancreatic enzymes in them.

By treating one organ as the cause you really defeat yourself when diabetes esp. adult onset is caused by our lifestyles, the way we have abuse our body over the years, obesity, lack of a good diet, lack of regular meals insead of food on the run, lack of consistant exercise, not to mention pesticide and other chemicals in our foods which tend to be hormone disrupters so on and so forth.

It truely is all about managing your calorie intake and keeping your body weight down by exercising regularly i.e. I use my treadmill 3 -4 times a week and walk 20 minutes at a steady pace, you can walk outside but it must be constant no stopping to chat or smell the flowers.

Diabetes uncontrolled can exhaust every body organ it can effect your eyes, heart, circulation, kidney's and so forth. It's a ugly dis ease of the body but it can be conquer by diet and exercise, using the glycemic index and counting your calories, along with regular exercise, along with Herbs can help balance the body, but herbs alone as well as medicine alone really does work nothing really works independent of the other.
