Pregnant - Using Herbs
I am 6 weeks pregnant. I have some brown stain occasionally. Currently I am taking Red Raspberry, FC, IF-C, Pau D'Arco, Loclo, Liquid Chlorophyll, Cal Magnesium ,Spirulina and Bio C. Does anyone know whether the above products are safe to consume during early stage of pregnancy ? Thanks for your reply. -Lena Chew

I have personally taken Red Raspberry, Liquid Chlorophyll, and Calcium/Magnesium during three pregnancies and found them to be safe and effective. I don't have personal experience with the others. Best wishes! -Ruth

Female Comfort contains both Black Cohosh and Dong Quai. These herbs are not normally recommended during early stages of pregnancy. Instead, they are used to help ease delivery, which is why they are part of the 5-W formula (which is used during the last 5 weeks of pregnancy).
IF-C also contains Dong Quai (Dang Gui), as well as other herbs that may have some ability to promote menstruation.
Personally, I would immediately start taking herbs that help prevent spotting and the threat of miscarriage due to uterine weakness (i.e. False Unicorn). Be sure to consult a qualified midwife, naturopathic doctor, or obstetrician. According to the "Physician's Desk Reference for Herbal Medicines," no health hazards or side effects are known for false unicorn when used in conjunction with proper administration of designated therapeutic dosages.
I would also begin taking NSP's Nature's Prenatal vitamin to ensure that you are getting sufficient folic acid intake (which helps prevent birth defects).
Although False Unicorn is a once-a-year product, NSP may still have some available in one of their warehouses...just ask the order department.
