Organ Time Chart
Chi is strongest in various organ systems at different times of day. Each organ system is paired; if you have trouble with one organ system, you should pay close attention to the characteristics of its counterpart. Each pair is located together in the chart below.
1am - 3am = liver
3am - 5am = lungs
5am - 7am = colon - large intestine
7am - 9am = stomach
9am -11am = spleen/pancreas
11am - 1pm = heart
1pm - 3pm = small intestines
3pm - 5pm = bladder
5pm - 7pm = kidney/adrenal
7pm - 9pm = reproductive - circulation/sex meridian
9pm - 11pm = endocrine
11pm - 1am = gallbladder
Times above are when the system is most actively rebuilding so they are receiving the most energy
The opposite time is when the least energy is given to that system
Challenges to a system can be indicated by distress at either time

In Chinese medicine, the Triple Warmer is the system that keeps the body warm. The Chinese envisioned three "burners" or warmers in the body, which radiated the heat or the warmth through the system. If I remember correctly, one is over the navel, another over the solar plexus, and the third over the chest. Essentially, the triple warmer is the metabolism, and it relates to the glandular processes of the thyroid and adrenals, as well as circulation.
It is important to understand that all of the Chinese "organs" aren't really organs at all, but rather represent metabolic processes. So, for example, the spleen represents the power to transform the food we eat into muscle mass, so it doesn't represent the anatomical organ we call the spleen in Western medicine. Instead, it represents the metabolic power to digest, assimilate and process proteins to create structural mass.
Likewise, the kidney houses the basic life force and regulates fluid and mineral balance, i.e., the kidneys build the bones. Osteoporosis, therefore, is seen as a symptom of Kidney Chi deficiency in Chinese medicine. The Chinese "kidney" also affects the reproductive system, especially in males, so that premature ejaculation was seen as Kidney Chi deficiency, too. So, the Chinese "kidney" organ includes processes of the adrenals, prostate and reproductive glands.
In the West, we are more meticulous about anatomy. The Chinese organs actually deal with energy flows, which are related to, but not limited to, the organs in question. The energies also involve emotions, not just physical processes and organs. -Steven Horne |
