Olestra
Just last week I did an internet search on Olestra for a friend. One reference (http://www.cspinet.org/new/colrprt.html) reported at a press conference in Jan. 1997 that the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public interest (CSPI) had nearly 200 people complain of gastrointestinal symptoms after eating the Pringles to their Olestra Hot Line - some so severe that they went to hospital emergency rooms.
Another site (http://www.cspinet.org/olestra/experts.html) quotes a number of prominent doctors and scientists as saying things about it such as, "We are concerned about the high incidences of gastrointestinal effects, ranging from diarrhea to fecal urgency, that are caused by the consumption of modest levels of olestra". Dr. Mark Donowitz, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
I then found one more site entitled "Was Olestra Another AMA ‘Endorsement for Hire'?" This article was about the CSPI investigating ethical questions about AMA dealings with Procter & Gamble (Sounds much like aspartame, doesn't it . . .)
