I have been speaking with a support group for Interstitial Cystitis. This is a chronic Inflammatory condition of the bladder, for which they say is no cure, and not really sure what causes it. The medical means of treatment varies from case to case, and what helps some may not help others. In talking with these women, most have been on antibiotics a lot especially in the beginning, because DR's think it is a Kidney or bladder infection. So most have all the signs of candida, digestive and eliminative problems, allergies, yeast infections, fungus. My first thought is, get the bowel working, look at digestion, and then look at candida. These people have to stick to a nonacid diet, and are not supposed to eat yogurt, certain acidic foods, wine and a whole list of foods that as it ages tyrosine an amino acid converts into a special substance called tyramine. Foods high in tyramine are cheese, yogurt, wine, and beer. I would like to have some of the ladies I'm working with take some acidophilus not only to help replenish the good bacteria in the bowel, but would be necessary if they want to look at treating their candida. They are afraid to take it, although I have a couple who are doing fine on it. Their Dr. a Urologist who believes somewhat in natural health doesn't think they should take it either. He is open to finding out more information about it.
It only makes sense to me and my manager Kay L. that something normal in the bowel and so important would not cause sensitivity to the bladder, with these people. -Kelley Quinn

Interstitial Cystitis is more of a chronic condition, which needs more time for healing. Usually cranberry juice is recommended for cystitis because the acidic juice prevents the bacteria from adhering to the wall of the bladder. But in her case, acidic foods are to be avoided and I would NOT suggest cranberry! I would start working on alkalizing the diet. I'd use Marshmallow, which is a good natural source of calcium. Calcium is alkalizing. Another herb I'd use is Bayberry, which can be used for blockages. Bayberry is also a rich source of calcium. For calcium absorption it's also important to have magnesium. Marshmallow also contains this as do Kelp, Red Raspberry, Licorice (the herb). Drinking lemon water is also helpful. It leaves alkaline ash. -Chottsie |
