Horse - MSM
Could anyone tell me how much MSM and joint support it would take for an 800 lb. horse to help the joints? -Martha Guillory

It normally takes about 8000mg. of MSM if you used powdered MSM. If we still have the EverFlex powder I'd use 1 scoop twice daily for 4 weeks, then one scoop per day. Injuries require 6-8 weeks to heal, horse should have pasture, and his shoes removed to increase circulation to his feet. Standing in the stall when they are hurt is not good for healing. I usually use 5 capsules of any of our herbal blends twice daily for 1000 lb. horse. Some that horses respond well to are: Joint Support, Nature's Noni, Herbal Trace Minerals, and yucca. Once a condition improves you should be able to maintain on 6 day. Even thought horses weigh a lot more than us they respond very well to smaller doses then we might think. Many of the herbal blends you find in the feed store contain very little of the actual herbs and the herb sources are not the same quality as the people herbs. Most horse products are made from the left over herb that didn't grind down small enough to be capsulated for the human formulas, and contain a lot of fillers. I found when I use the NSP formulas I can use less and get better results. Vitamin C is also very important for healing in horses, if the joint formula does not contain it you can give him 2000mg. twice a day. Capsules and pills can be thrown in with the grain, if they need it they normally will eat them just fine. -Valerie G. |
