Heart - Attack Module

UNTOLD TRUTH SEMINAR Module 6 - You Don't Have to Die of a Heart Attack: Winning the Battle with America's No. 1 Killer

Laurence Smith's testimonial (also one of the Untold Truth Seminar Instructors) As a 38-year-old, overweight but no symptoms Became gray and pallid, nauseated and weak Suffered a massive heart attack Prescribed drugs destroyed his vision and left him legally blind His cholesterol was 380, triglyceride over 500, HDL 22 After intense changes, 10 months later he had a second heart attack. Laurence vowed to learn why and how to beat this thing and share his story. He took the time to educate himself on what it would take to get his health back. Within nine months he was completely off his heart medications. Today his TG/HDL ratio is 1:1 He is pain-free. He has energy and stamina he never dreamed of. And he is eager to share this knowledge and experience with others.

What is Heart Disease?

Arterial wall weakened— build up of fat and cholesterol Stiffens and clogs the arteries Causes elevated blood pressure This inflammation from over-acid conditions causes arterial plaque, which can literally starve the heart muscle of oxygen and cause a heart attack!

Are You At Risk? This is the #1 killer of women – not cancer! Which of these traditional risk factors do you have? Baldness Vertex (top of the head) baldness shows the greatest link to coronary heart disease Even higher risk when coupled with hypertension and/or high cholesterol Earlobe creases, especially a diagonal crease Accounts for a 33% increase in risk of heart attack Smoking Every cigarette steals 8 minutes of your life A pack a day = one month of life lost every year Hypertension (high blood pressure exceeding 140/90 mm/Hg) Obesity 30% above ideal weight Body mass index of 27.5 or above Thyroid Disease Thyroid dysfunction may slow or decrease the metabolic breakdown of fats such as cholesterol as well as slow or decrease the processing of homocysteine. Deranged lipids (cholesterol level imbalance) Too high or too low cholesterol levels can be dangerous - should be 175-250 mg. Standard cholesterol tests miss 50% of those at risk due to inability to detect abnormally small cholesterol particles Stress – triggers more than 250,000 heart attacks a year Inherited Weakness – an immediate or extended family member who has had heart disease Gender susceptibility – men and women have different symptoms (listed further on) Sedentary lifestyle Your risk increases if you exercise fewer than 30 minutes five times per week Gum disease Chronic inflammation of periodontal disease often runs parallel to artherosclerotic blood vessels (thickening of the blood vessel walls) Iron overload Every 1% rise in above-normal blood iron increases risk of heart disease 4%

50% of cardiac deaths occur in people who were never diagnosed with cardiovascular disease!!!

The Newest Generation of Heart Disease Risk Factors: Fibrinogen: a marker for blood coagubility and inflammation Fibrinolytic activity: the regulation of fibrinogen concentrations Lipoprotein (a): a marker for impaired fiibrinolysis and plaque build-up Homocysteine: a marker for hypercoagubility and vascular assault Syndrome X: a condition of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia C-Reactive Protein: an inflammatory marker

UNTOLD TRUTH #1: It's Not Cholesterol Levels that are Critical, it's your TG/HDL level (ratio) that matters!

Cholesterol can be both good and bad - Cholesterol is not all bad Strengthens cell walls and assists in the exchange of nutrients and waste materials across membranes Conducts nerve impulses through the brain and spinal cord Maintains proper fat digestion Makes skin resistant to chemical and disease organisms, and helps skin convert sunlight into Vit. D. HDL (high density lipoproteins) are good

Total cholesterol can be a potentially misleading indicator Cholesterol is only one of 250 heart disease risk factors Half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels Over 3,000 young Americans (15-34) died suddenly of heart disease in 1998; up 10% from the previous decade

Get the balance right: High-sugar, high-refined diet elevates triglycerides and lowers good cholesterol (HDL) More important than total cholesterol is the ratio of TG/HDL High triglyceride (TG) levels have been linked to lower levels of High Density Lipoproteins (HDL)

Triglyceride Guideline

BEST: 150 mg./dL or lower to a ratio of higher than 41 mg/dL of HDL Borderline TG high levels 150-199 mg/dL High levels TG 200-499 mg/dL Dangerously high levels TG 500 mg/dL

Reduce refined carbs to improve your TG/HDL ratio Sugars (white or sucrose) Refined flours (white flour of all types) Chips (potato and corn) Candy of all types Soda – also called "liquid candy"

UNTOLD TRUTH #2: Inflammation is the Heart of the Matter Chronic inflammation is linked to:

Periodontal disease Diabetes Alzheimer's Cancer and Heart Disease

Inflammation: What Goes Wrong? Inflamed white blood cell lesions rupture and trigger a heart attack Risk factors: obesity smoking genetic predisposition high stress Highly processed, carbohydrate-rich diet The body's response includes C-Reactive Proteins, homocysteine levels and fibrinogen

Syndrome X: The Inflammation Connection Syndrome X patients are at high risk for heart disease We can now trace the problems back to inflammation It all starts with excessive sugar in the bloodstream, typically from eating refined, high-carbohydrate foods

What about High-Protein Foods? High-protein, low-carb diets cause cholesterol to raise (no fiber). Can cause "ketosis" a calcium loss: osteoporosis, kidney stones and arterial plaque buildup. Homocysteine can build up from any protein - even that which is not high in fat. This causes inflammation.

Chronic high blood sugar will do two key things: Sugar inflames the lining of the arteries. In response, the arteries produce substances such as prostaglandin and cytokines that trigger spasms, endothelial stickiness, and clogging up – the genesis of heart disease. Excess sugar causes insulin spiking that over time can fatigue the pancreas and cause inflammation that leads to insulin resistance – a condition where inflamed cells can no longer accept or use insulin to pull glucose from the blood and convert it to energy. Insulin resistance is a classic precursor to diabetes, as well as a frequent companion to Syndrome X.

UNTOLD TRUTH #3: Women are 10-12 times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer!

"1 out of 2 women will die of a heart attack – you or your mother." Breast cancer will affect one in every eight women Women cannot neglect their risk for a much greater threat, heart disease Heart disease is the number one killer of women Only 3% of women believe they will die of cardiovascular disease, but 45% do. 45% of women believe they will die of breast cancer, but only 3% do! For African-American women, the risk of heart disease is two-fold higher than Caucasian women... not because of the color of their skin, but because of the typical cultural diet – lots of meat and grease.

Heart Disease: Same Disease, Different Symptoms

Classic Symptoms Common in Men Chest pain, including tightness, fullness, squeezing or pressure Pain radiating to shoulders, neck, arms or back Chest discomfort, accompanied by nausea or vomiting, dizziness, etc.

Atypical Symptoms (Common in Women) Dizziness, fainting, sweating, nausea, or shortness of breath WITHOUT chest pain Abdominal or stomach pain Sudden, unexplained weakness, fatigue or anxiety, especially after exercise Sleeplessness may be an early indicator, up to a month before heart attack

The Threats of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) and Stroke Is more fatal in women More likely to leave a woman permanently disabled by stroke or heart failure Conditions can be exacerbated by hormones

Women's symptoms often look just like estrogen dominance (heart racing, digestive problems, etc.) Estrogen dominance causes spasms in the arteries.

WHAT'S THE HORMONE CONNECTION?

Birth Control Pills: heightens blood pressure, risk of blood clots, raises blood sugar. Diabetes: cancels the protective effect of estrogen in pre-menopausal women. Women with diabetes are more likely to have cardiovascular disease than men. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Alarming results—22% increase in cardiovascular disease and 41% increase in stroke.

UNTOLD TRUTH #4 – Cardiologists are often slow to react.

Physicians often disregard the information about the damaging role of Fibrinogen C-reactive proteins Homocysteine... Even though we have all of these wonderful diagnostic tests available to us! Most insurance companies won't even pay for the tests.

They focus instead on obesity, sedentary lifestyle, genetic predisposition, and they work to manage these issues with prescription drugs. The drug companies do a great job as "drug pushers", giving doctors drug literature, product samples, and promotional trips, etc. The doctors are led to believe that the pharmaceutical companies have the latest and greatest information. (I wonder if they are still thinking that in the wake of the VIOXX recall?)

We need to take this information and give it to our doctors!

EVERY ONE OF THESE test results (above) can be helped by the 90-day HOH Challenge. Thai-Go – will reduce inflammation markers Homocysteine levels – improved with B vitamins

UNTOLD TRUTH #5: Drugs are not the solution!

Drugs offer temporary fixes, not permanent solutions.

Once you begin a prescription routine, you are committed to a life sentence of drug regulation Drugs have serious side effects or interaction precautions Most cardiovascular patients are on multiple medications

Drugs are effective at addressing specific problems, but they are also very depleting as well (anti-nutrients)!

Popular drugs and their side effects

Diuretics (remove excess body fluid to lower blood pressure) Low potassium and magnesium levels (can be life threatening) Dizziness Headache Weakness Insomnia Anxiety Blurry vision Nausea Anorexia Rash Dry mouth Fever Muscle cramps ACE inhibitors (suppress the enzyme anglotensin, which raises blood pressure) For ACE inhibitors, Beta Blockers, and Calcium Channel Blockers: ANGINA Beta Blockers (slow and steady heart rate) Hypotension Stroke Edema (fluid retention) Joint Pain Arthritis Flu-like symptoms Calcium Channel Blockers (deliver a more efficient heart beat and lower blood pressure) Ringing in the ears Fatigue Confusion Depression Resins (reduce LDL cholesterol levels (with little impact on triglycerides) Constipation Bloating Fullness Nausea Gas Fibrates (inhibit the production of proteins that contain fat and cholesterol – lower LDL and triglyceride levels and raise HDL) Nausea Vomiting Abdominal pain Gallstones Rash Inflamed liver Muscle inflammation Statins (reduce cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for producing it. The most popular class of cholesterol-lowering drugs) Headache Dizziness Insomnia Diarrhea Heartburn Dry mouth Leg and shoulder pain Backache Cough Severe joint pain CoQ 10 enzyme inhibition (a serious side effect)

There is a time and a place when you need medication – you have to get skyrocketing blood pressure under control quickly so you don't suffer a stroke; but find out WHY your BP is skyrocketing! Blood Pressurex – start taking, then lower your medication Magnesium – natural calcium channel blocker Thai-Go – reduce inflammation Garlic Lemon Juice Cayenne Pepper

Cholesterol – support the liver and thyroid; switch to red yeast rice and omega 3's Quit smoking with Lobelia, SJW, Nutri-Calm

BEAT HEART DISEASE WITH NATURAL REMEDIES

You know the truth about Heart Disease: Untold Truth #1: The confusion around cholesterol levels can be banished forever. Focus on lowering your TG/HDL ratio, and you'll reduce your risk of heart disease. Untold Truth #2: Inflammation is the real villain behind heart disease. If we can eradicate the source of inflammation—high blood sugar, over processed diets high in "bad" fats, inactivity and smoking—then we can banish heart disease. Untold Truth #3: Women are at special risk for heart disease because they suffer as often as men do, but their symptoms are often different and the consequences are more deadly. Untold Truth #4: Cardiologists are well-meaning, but many are ill-informed. Most only look at traditional risk factors and treat them with traditional medications. They are slow to react because many downplay the role of C-reactive proteins, homocysteine or fibrinogen in heart attacks. Untold Truth #5: Drugs are popular but they aren't a cure. They'll merely cover symptoms and potentially even cause serious side effects that can permanently damage your health.

Examine yourself and your lifestyle If you smoke, stop! If you are sedentary, get up and move! If you are overweight, work to lose it! Add supplements to your daily routine!

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #1

Mega Chel – roto-rooter of the circulatory system Vitamin C, known to reduce plaque in arteries Both vitamins B6 and B12 are effective at reducing homosysteine levels This is great for lead poisoning also Make sure you follow directions exactly – start slow, and you MUST be on a mineral supplement ( 2 2x/day, 3 2x/day, 4 2x, 5 2x, 6 2x, stay at that level for as many decades as you are old.) Liquid calcium displaces lead

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #2

Red Yeast Rice Helps maintain normal cholesterol levels and supports the circulatory system. Do not take with any statin medications. Take Co-Q10 while using Red Yeast Rice.

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #3

Co-Q 10 (therapeutic, 300-400 mg./day with a Vit. E supplement) Oil-soluble, so don't take it with your fiber Vitamin E-like compound Increases energy of cells Antioxidant Membrane stabilization

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #4

Cardio Assurance Hawthorn: inhibits mild congestive heart failure Red Clover: contains isoflavones that improve artery elasticity Capsicum: supports healthy circulation and normalizes blood flow Great for preventative purposes if there is a family history of heart disease

Capsicum – cayenne pepper – is known to stop bleeding; can put the extract under someone's tongue and stop their heart attack Put a little extract in cold water and drink it down – definitely helps circulation Capsicum causes all the organs to secrete – it will definitely help you empty your bowels! (1/2 t./water, plus more water)

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #5

Omega-3s: Nature's Antifreeze Omega-3s help to keep cell membranes fluid, flexible. Fish do not produce omega-3s. They get it from phytoplankton. Therefore....farm-raised fish, fed food pellets, are not rich in Omega-3's like deep ocean fish are. Let the buyer beware!!

HEART DISEASE FIGHTER #6

Blood Pressurex Olive leaf: decreases blood pressure by increasing coronary flow within the left ventricle Goldenrod: provides a natural diuretic effect to reduce excess fluid L-arginine: slows the formation of blood clots; helps to open up the arteries and increase blood flow
