Glyconutrients from NSP

I have been asked about whether NSP has "Glyconutrients". So I wrote to Questions@natr.com and the Health Sciences Dept replied with the following information. I thought this might be helpful information since companies are promoting this as if it's a newly discovered "product", when in fact, it's merely a necessary part of a health regime. -G.

Glyconutrients is another name for simple sugars, specifically 8 simple sugars. Some are found in the everyday diet. Good sources of glyconutrients are aloe, mushrooms, kelp, rice bran, oat bran, and shellfish. Most of the glyconutrient products currently on the market derive the glyconutrients from aloe. Glyconutrients are a specific type of polysaccharide (sugar complex). Polysaccharides are indeed important; they are attributed as the active ingredients in many herbal products. For example, the active compounds in echinacea are polysaccharides.

Some food and herb sources for polysaccharides/glyconutrients include:

Astragalus is a source of galactose, arabinose, xylose, fucose, rhamnose, and galacturonic acid.

Bladderwrack has rich fructose containing polysaccharides.

Kelp contains glucose, fucose, xylose, mannose, and galactose.

Oat bran, fibers, gums, barley, and brewer's yeast contain beta-glucans.

Pectin is made up of lots of galactose subunits.

Fenugreek and guar gum are sources of mannose and galactose.

Psyllium contains xylose.

Maitake mushrooms contain beta d-glucans. Reishi also contains D-glucans and Shiitake contains a polysaccharide lentinan, mannose, and n-acetylglucosamine.

Aloe vera juice and whole leaf aloe is an excellent source of mucopolysaccharides, and includes the glyconutrients mannose, galactose and arabinose.

Bovine collagen (NSP's Collatrim) and shark cartilage are sources of n-acetylglucosamine and n-acetylgalactosamine.

Whey protein isolate is a source of n-acetylneuraminic acid.

NSP's Immune Stimulator is a good source of glyconutrients because it contains beta-glucan, arabinogalactan, and reishi and maitake mushroom.
