Goat's Milk and Fat

My daughter is here with her baby. She has gone to supplementing breast milk with Similac. She said she did a long research study and found that goat's milk did not have the necessary EFA's for a baby. She said if I could prove otherwise, she would go for goat's milk. Does anyone have anything I can back this up with or is she right.....not about the Simlac but about the goat's milk and fats? I get sick thinking she is giving the baby Similac. She is the "fact" daughter; she'll do anything if she has real facts. Appreciate your help. -Nolee

I would recommend reading "Goat Milk Magic" by Dr. Bernard Jensen. There is a wealth of info. on goat milk in this book. We actually drink raw goat's milk. There is a comparison chart comparing breast milk, goat's milk, and cow's milk. Interestingly enough, there are no EFA's listed as a component of breast milk. The lists break down all the vitamins and minerals in each of these milks. The EFA's for goat's milk are 4.1 per 100 gm of milk fat, 2.6 per 100 gm of cow's milk. This is a really inexpensive book. I got mine for under $13.00. There is a whole chapter on babies, and children. This info. is straight from that chapter. "Goat milk is lacking in two vitamins and one mineral important to the development of infants and children. These are folic acid, Vitamin E, and iron. Vitamin E must be given daily to babies in the amount of 4 I.U. during their first year, since it is lacking in goat milk. Goat milk is deficient in folic acid; best to add 100 micrograms of folic acid to each quart of goat milk used. All milk is low in iron, when infant needs iron supplement, black strap molasses can be added to the milk. Goat milk has a much greater range of minerals and trace elements that most foods, and only needs boosting in nutrients like folic acid, vitamin E, and iron. Hope that this helps you. If you have any questions, let me know. Again, I highly advise this book if you have an interest in goat's milk. -Lisa
