Glycerin VS Alcohol
A friend of mine told me that she read recently that herbal extracts in glycerin are not as good as those in alcohol. She also is under the impression that glycerin contains natural sugars. I think that she is incorrect since glycerin is a vegetable product and I learned in a nutrition class that vegetables by and large do not contain sugars. I have tried to find information on exactly what glycerin is and can't seem to find it. Can anyone tell me? Also, does anyone know why NSP puts some extracts in glycerin and others in alcohol? I have always wondered about this; I am sure there is a good reason. Thanks! - Laura

Look in Tabers Nursing Manual for glycerine definition and in the back of the book is nutritional facts.
As for Glycerine/Alcohol. All extracts start out with Alcohol extraction. Then glycerine is added and the alcohol is slowly cooked off and now you have a glycerine extract. Some feel alcohol goes to the blood stream faster which is true. Glycerine is for those who cannot have alcohol. Both methods are good. -Suzanne |
