Glucosamine - Chondroitin for Repairing Damaged Joints

Following find a program I prepared for my aunt that has been buying her Glucosamine/Chondroitin at Walmart to save money. She thought I was trying to make a buck off of her.
Take Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfates to Repair Damaged Joints

These two supplements are the heart of the Arthritis Cure program. Dosages of Glucosamine and Chondroitin are usually figured according to your body weight. Although some people may need more, the following dosages are usually effective and serve as a good starting point.

IF YOU WEIGH YOU SHOULD TAKE:

less than 120 pounds 1,000 mg Glucosamine plus 800 mg Chondroitin between 120-200 pounds 1,500 mg Glucosamine plus 1,200 mg Chondroitin
more than 200 pounds 2,000 mg Glucosamine plus 1,600 mg Chondroitin

For maximum effectiveness, it is recommended that the doses be divided into 2 to 4 doses, and take them throughout the day with food. They may also be taken without food, although food seems to help propel them down the esophagus.

Vitamin C and the mineral Manganese increase the effectiveness of both Glucosamine and Chondroitin and have beneficial effects on joint functions, so make sure these are either included in the supplements that you buy, or take them separately.

Manganese, which is important for synthesis of cartilage components, is also an antioxidant. A deficiency of this mineral, which often goes unnoticed, can itself lead to osteoarthritis. Found in many whole foods such as nuts, beans, oatmeal, beef liver, and dried peaches, manganese is usually lacking in processed foods.
Supplementation appears to be safe in doses up to 50 mg a day.

Vitamin C serves as an antioxidant that "recharges" other antioxidants. Because it is water soluble, Vitamin C is eliminated from the body in just a few hours (even the "time-released" kind), so taking several smaller doses throughout the day is much more effective than taking one large dose. I generally recommend taking between 500 and 4,000 milligrams of Vitamin C per day in 2 to 4 divided doses. If you can get it in an ascorbate formula it is easier to digest and assimilate as well as usually much cheaper. You can mix it with some orange juice or water and drink it and it will get into your blood stream within 20 minutes and still be there 24 hours later.

The quality of the supplements you are taking is very important. All glucosamine is not created equal, unfortunately. While some are pure glucosamine many are mixed with preservatives and fillers such as cedar shavings, black walnut hulls, etc. Some have trace amounts of preservatives such as ethyl glycol, polyethylene glycol, etc. These are the same products that are used for de-icing jets and huge airplanes. Trace amounts in many different supplements can add up to big troubles over time.

I found that when I compared the products that were already mixed (chondroitin and glucosamine) in one, that it was cheaper to buy them separate and through NSP. Hope this helps. Just for comparison, in case you pitched the other. The Glucosamine through NSP is 400 mg and contains 60 capsules. It runs $22.50. The Chondroitin is 300 mg and contains 60 capsules.

Just a final note: Look for Glucosamine Hydrochloride for the best value. Here is the reason.

Glucosamine Hydrochloride Comparative Attribute Glucosamine Sulfate. Same Functionality Same (Bio-availability) 99+% Purity 74% as the specific salt 81.3% Active Glucosamine 47.8% as the free base 1,500 mg Equivalent Dosage 2,603 mg. (based on active) 2.0 capsules per day 3.5 (750 mg./capsule) 60 Capsules Per Month 104 (750 mg/capsule) 1 Bottle Per Month 1.75 (60 x 750 mg.)

Now this is based on a 750mg capsule and based on a per day dosage of 1,500 mg. just for comparison value, but you will see that the difference is substantial. You get a lot more out of the Hydrochloride and thus you are out much less money with much better results. Ours is Hydrochloride and has the added bonus of Una de Gato which is an anti-inflammatory as well as a immune stimulant and is great for the pain and discomfort without being addictive.

I know this sounds like I'm pushing the stuff that I'm selling, I'm just a firm believer in getting the most for your money and I want to see you get better. I don't want to see you throwing your money away. -Lisa Canon
