Gag Reflex and Mucus
After having a mucus cold years ago my aunt developed a bad case of gaging up excessive mucus and phlegm. This is an extreme case which makes it impossible to even brush her teeth without setting in motion a hour long gagging situation. She is very uncomfortable. No doctors have been able to diagnose her condition. Any advice or comments? -KC

It is most likely that she is allergic to something which is causing an over amount of mucus, possibly dairy products, milk, cheese, butter or could be wheat products. I would eliminate these things in her diet first. When mucus is coming out of the lungs it is likely it is also coating the intestines. I would highly suggest she change her diet, eat only fresh fruits, vegetables and clear broths, no red meat. I would do an intestinal cleanse. Believe it or not and I would put her on something like Bowel Build and tell her to drink lemon juice or natural lemonade every morning and every night. This is great for relieving excessive mucus. Sounds like she may have a tickle in her throat too. I would suggest essential oils like Peppermint or Eucalyptus to put on her throat topically and to breath deeply before she brushes her teeth. Lavender oil has a numbing effect if she wants to use that, but it is not as soothing as the minty oils. I would also suggest diffusing some of these oils at night when she is sleeping this will help any reoccurrence of the cold virus also. Good luck. -Susan Bartlett |
