Tonsillitis
My seven-year-old daughter has swollen tonsils, a fever and a "coated" tongue. Would this be caused by a virus, perhaps, or something else? Any recommendations? -Laura
The only way to rule out strep is with a strep test, but that does not mean you cannot treat it with herbs if you so desire. We use Golden Seal/Echinacea. I know it tastes awful and if you follow instructions and dilute it it tastes worse! I just told my kids "this tastes awful, but it works." I personally feel that the liquid herb is great because it coats part of the sick area and starts working right away. Follow the nasty stuff with lots of hugs and water. The dose is on the label.
We have also used the Golden Seal/Parthenium with success. The fever, if it doesn't go too high is a friend, it is the body's answer to getting rid of the infecting agent. To keep it from going too high try few clothes, relaxed atmosphere, lots and lots of cool but not cold drinks. Make sure there is plenty of breathing room around those tonsils by encouraging drinking healthy liquids. (juices, chicken soup, vegetable juices too.) Use pure water.
Also use the homeopathic Sore Throat/Laryngitis. (This is really great when they come back with "it hurts to swallow" because they do NOT have to swallow it, it works from under the tongue and soon it does not hurt to swallow!) If you do not have success within three days go get her diagnosed. If you do go get her diagnosed with a strep test just be polite and say you will wait for the results of the test before you decide how to proceed.-Marilyn Navarro |
