Cat - Urinary Problems
My friend has a cat who is urinating and drinking a lot. Lab tests basically negative. He is a male, about 8 yr old. Any suggestions? Thanks, -Lindy

Does he drink tap water? He may have urinary calculi from it. If, that is the case, give him Hydrangea either orally (difficult with a cat), rectally (not quite as difficult, but not always easy), or sprinkle it on his food. My cats love it. -Georgiana Duncan

Is the weather hot? In warm weather a cat drinks an awful lot of water. My daughter says that if the cat is not spending more than two minutes at the water bowl at a time it is OK--water goes in one end and out the other! Make sure he is drinking good, filtered, RO water, and that his bowl is clean. Cats get thirsty because their coat is too dry and they want to tame it down, because the weather is hot or because they are very active. He may also have discovered a novel way to get attention. -Marilyn N

Your cat could be having trouble with his urinary tract. Could be an infection. Is he missing the litter box when he goes Wee Wee? These plus drinking a lot of water are all signs. Look for foods with no more then a 5.0 maximum on the Ash and Magnesium. You might even need to go lower then that depending on the cat. Blessings. -Linda |
